Default Can a decent pre-73 911 be had for $10,000?

Hello all, I was wondering if I can get some quick advice. I have owned a string of new P-cars (2002 and 2005 Boxter S ,2000 996...) but I have always wanted an early car. I just built a new house and have a free garage spot, every day that it is empty breaks my heart

I am looking to use it as a 3rd car - weekend cruiser, maybe an autocross here or there, but enjoyment driving not daily transportation. When I look, I always gravitate towards very early cars (69, 70, 71). I know I want to stay pre-73 for sure. Is it possible to get into a decent early car for that kind of money? I know it will not be a showpiece in that range, I just want something presentable. I should also add- I am not budget limited where I won't have money to service and keep the car up, I just want to be in ths range (otherwise my plans change altogether).

Thoughts?

TIA
Aaron

No. In your area, the cars will have rust. In CA, Arnold has made sure that the pre-smog cars are appreciating in value.

One just went on ebay that didn’t look too bad for 7000.00. He had a buy it now on they’re for 5900.00 and I ef'd off too long and the auction hit his reserve at 5000.00 and the BIN went away. I was 5 min from actually doing the BIN.... snooze ya lose..... It was even in my corner of the country. So I say, if you keep your eye out and hunt for one, yes it can be found. Tonight during a walk around the block I saw an 11 in a garage a few blocks away. It was very dusty, had a few paint cans and other things sitting on it. I think I may walk the street a bit more often and hope to catch them out side one night.

It's not hard to find early cars for less than 10K. But then, a lot depends on what you mean by 'decent.'

These days, an original S in good shape can get in the 80's. If you're not fixated on originality, many good examples can be had in the 20's (but, again, different people have different definitions of 'good.')

thanks guys! By decent I mean 6.5 to 7 out of 10. Cracked paint ok, but no major rust, won't leave me on the side of the road TOO often.

cracked paint (& by extension cracked dash?) + not solid mechanically - I'll change to $12k or less..

Quick Reply: Can a decent pre-73 911 be had for $10,000?
