Default Squeaky Door

Does anyone know how to fix a squeaky door on a 911. It gets much worse with the top down. I have tried to oil and lubricate the door sill but nothing seems to work. Any advise is appreciated. Thanks!

Did you try a rubber treatment (not silicone) on the weather stripping?

Steve

Is there a particular treatment that you would recommned? Is this something I can pick up a Pebb Boys or similar auto parts store. Sorry for the silly questions but I am newbe to the Porsche and "self help" thing.

Meguirs makes a rubber treatment that you should be able buy at your local auto store.

The rubber treatment didn't work. The creaking is driving me nuts! Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Adam

Is it the hinge, the locking plate, or the weatherstripping?
try some white lithium grease on the hinges and around the post that holds the door in place.
Is this a Targa or a Cabriolet? (You mentioned the top down makes it worse)
Can you stop the squeeks by holding the door or pressing against it while you drive?
I suppose it could be possible that the noise is not from the door at all. it could be from the suspension and witht he top down you can hear it better. It could also be 'body flex' associated with the Targas/Cabs that the coupes do not suffer from. There could also be a loose fender mount rod or bumper mount causing a nasty noise when the car flexes.
Good luck.

Dan, it is a cabriolet and the noise does stop when I hold the door in place. I suspect it is not a hinge because the noise only occures when the door is closed. Alos I can replicate the noise with the car standing still by pressing on the outside of the door above the handle os I also suspect it is not the suspension. Pretty much leaves the rubber stripping. I have lubricated it and cleaned it and everything in between. The rubber iteslf seems to be in pretty good shape so I'm not sure where to go from here.
thanks for the help!

It could still be the "stop plate" squeeking at that pont where the door is closed. If you can reproduce it standing still it should be fairly easy . see if you can identlfy when you push on it where the sound is coming from. I had a similar problem so I took the inside door skin off and lubed the stop plate from the inside and it worked great.

Good luck.

Rookie question but....what is a stop plate and where do I find it. If it comes off, how do I get it off?

there is a plate mounted in the door with a small bar on it , I stops the door from swinging to wide. I think it is between the hinges. These are quite prone to failure in general, I am not sure i have the terminology right but I know there is a write up on the pelican sight. i greased mine by taking the interior door covering offand getting at it that way.

He's talking about the check strap.

Another way to isolate the noise is with duct tape. With tape covering up various body gaps take it out on the road. Start removing some of the tape in places until the noise comes back. That should help to find the source.

Your description, however, is just too vague to give you more.
