Default Painting fan and housing

I have my alternator out and want to paint the fan . I know this has been discussed in the past but have a few quick questions. I have an air compressor and a touch up sprayer which should do fine. I do not want to powder coat it as there is very little clearance between the fan and housing and powdercoating is a little thick. I am going to use a 2K product ( water based automotive paint. Anyone done this ? should I just steel wool it and paint it ? should I prime it .. or should I just leave it to the pros... but I am sure he will ask me the same questions.

Thanks for any input.

Why not high heat resistant paint?

I tried painting my fan. I used Plastikote high temp engine enamal. I was not
that happy with it. It needed to be "touched up" from time to time.
If you want to do this, yes steel wool and no to primeing. You want a paint
that has a heat temperment and watch your edges, not much clearence
between the fan and housing. I strongly suggest powder coating.
I powder coated my fan now and it looks much better that it did when
I painted it.

You will need to have the fan power coated. It's getting a constant blast of dust etc and paint won't hold up.

Niether does Powder Coating. Eventually, it will chip and them you have to strip it and re-do. There is not touch up procedure that will look right on PC

I?f the fan is amuminum as opposed to magnesium, I suggest anodizing it as the most durable finish out there. Polish followed by clar anodizing leaves a very nice OE look. That is how I am going to go next time. I? powder coated it last time and it looks like sh*t 5 years later.

All sounds like good advice.

How would i go about polishing it and anodizing it ? would an automotive paint shop be able to do this ?

Thanjs.
