Hi rnln,

That is what is often called the "euro" cooler, or also the "28-row brass cooler." For a pure street car, it is an excellent upgrade over the silly trombone cooler. If you have any track aspirations at all, though, or if you get caught in traffic regularly or live in a climate where it gets hot, I'd skip this option and go directly to the finned cooler, also known as a "carrera" cooler since it came stock on 87-89 911s. But if I recall correctly, you did not have any cooler, right? Think about how you use your car and do this upgrade once ...it's cheaper in the long run. Oh, and also be very cautious/mindful of buying a used oil cooler. Know who you are buying from, and seriously weigh whether you truly trust that seller. Remember, it's only your engine oil that runs through that thing ...

To take Edward's correct comments a step further, the cooler was used primarily on '80 - 83 Euro SCs, but I've also seen them on a few early 3.2 Carrera gray market cars. They are more efficient than the double loop, but not as good as the "Carrera" cooler which Edward speaks of. That cooler is a radiator-style unit, '84 - 89 Carreras are fitted with them. '87 - 89 models have a blower fan with thermostat added. All '84 - 89 Carrera coolers original to the car have a stone guard (on the wheel side of the cooler) and a perimeter seal that forces incoming air through the cooler. Edward also makes a critical point - NEVER install a used cooler in your car until you have had it cleaned ultrasonically.
Happy New Year!

Thanks guys. I was searching for a smaller cooler than a "normal" cooler I usually see when I search. I guess this is the one called the carrera cooler since I have seen them the most. THese can not fit my car, at the regular area (the front wheel fender) since my car is converted to slant nose. The area under the fender is shorter than normal car (I guess because of the headlight bucket is taking the a big portion of the place). At first I was searching for any porshce cooler, then I search for any oil cooler to find the size I want, of course at a reasonal price. I saw this, doesn't fit my car for sure but i was curious because it look strange, to me.
Someone here recommended the front area under the hood but I would rather fit one at the fender if posible. Number one reason is stay away from too much mod work. Second reason is I affraid I easily hit things on the road since my car is too lowed.
My car is primarily for street use.
Thanks guys.

I would add one more caution if using a used cooler. Have it pressure checked.

rnln: Obviously, with a slantnose conversion, space for a factory front cooler goes away. BUT, if your car was done with factory parts (slant nose Turbos built in the late '80s were fitted with an oil cooler in the RIGHT REAR wheelhouse, forward of the wheel) is it possible that somebody spent the big bucks and you already have an auxiliary cooler? Like its Carrera brother, the Turbo's rear mounted aux. cooler was also fitted with a blower, and the assembly was tucked in behind the air intake at the leading edge of the right rear quarter panel.

Peter Z,
You mean right here, in the wheel well?
If you mean so, then there is none in there. I saw I have 2 coolers. On is right at the engine, underneather the car, the berh? And another one is right at the right front wheel well. It is simply a big long bent cooper pipe and loop in front of the wheel.

To me, I think the intake there is only 2 minor purposes (for a street car). 1- brake cooling. 2- the look. I was thinking of taking the air from there to under the rear deack lid. But ahh, I am too old for too big of a mod job.
Thanks Peter Z. You have a pic on the rear cooler mod on hands I can see?
Thanks.

Yes, the inlet that you've circled is the air supply for the factory auxiliary cooler on factory slant nose Turbos. Your car sounds like it was set up with available parts. The Behr cooler on the engine is original and the same for all cars of your vintage.
