Early W&T Sizes
I'm sure a lot of you are kinda tired of this subject - but I'm looking for advice on a recently acquired a 1972 911T. Upgrades, mods, etc, will have to wait 6-12 months and the current tires are unsafe.
So.... given contemporary tire design and availability, what is the recommended tire size for 5.5" x 15 Fuchs ? Brand comments, personal experience, and tall tales welcome.
Thanks

5.5" Fuchs. Yikes! Are you sure they aren't 6"?
I have 195/60R15 Continentals on my '69T. They are slightly undersize in diameter (should be 195/65) and seat well on the 6" rims (I have 15x6").
I have been happy with them, and I bought a reasonably crappy H rated tyre. They are hardly a super performance tyre but seem to grip well (I do only have a little over 100hp). There is also a V rated tyre available in the US which I couldn't get in NZ - the CV90. I probably have the equivalent to the CH90. Have a look at the Tire Rack. I would recommend 195/65R15 unless you want a shorter tyre.
If you have 5.5" rims, I would be wary about going any wider than 195 as they will get "floppy" (technical term ) - it will have probably come from the factory with 185/70R15 but you can't get decent tyres in this size any more (except for some vastly overpriced special low-production run versions).
