Default 16X8 fuchs in front?

I'm sure this is covered in other posts, but I can't seem to find the answer. Will 16X8 and 16X9 Fuchs fit my 82 SC without fender modifications? If so, any recommended source for a set of "cheap" 16X9s? Thanks.

You need the 944 8" Fuchs, which have the right offset. 911 8" Fuchs don't have the right offset, and won't work. Depending on the tire width you use, you may have to have greater negative camber, and may have to grind off the fender lip or roll the fender lip to prevent rubbing. I believe this is covered in the 911SC FAQ on tech.rennlist.com, and Bruce Anderson covers it in his book.

for those interested in wider front tires on large diam wheels on the front of '78-89 911s, here are some aspects to consider...
- more steering effort
- harsher ride
- more oversteer (unless matched to much wider rears)
- more aero drag (lower top speed, longer accel)
- clearance issues (esp under dynamic loads)
- wear issues (esp w/ aggressive alignments)
- weight issues (sometimes)
- greater load on bearings & bushings
- $$$s
you get the point - think through what your goals are, why you want to achieve them, how to get there & the consequences. very wide frts & rears on an old 911 may be best for specialized use - autocross & track use, for instance, & should be used in concert w/ other suspension system modifications.

As Bob and Bill have said, yes, the 944(actually a 951 part #) +23.3mm ET 16x8 can be fitted but it's o/s is a little too low to be truely happy. +25 to +31 8s will be somewhat more comfortable. They are all going to need compromises to the lips(and possibly camber) but that also depends a lot on the tire used, but the higher the better in that regard. The downside is that the higher the o/s the more likely there will be contact w/ the tub at full lock

STA76:

IMHO, "ked" offered some VERY sound advice,....

I think for specialized applications (DE & AutoX), installing 8" & 9"x16's enhance the handling as long as you have the appropriate suspension upgrades to take advantage of the increase in grip, but they carry some caveats as outlined by "ked".

I'd evaluate what you use the car for and perhaps use the larger wheels for those specific occasions.

Thanks all for the advice. I continue to appreciate the expertise represented here, and will seriously consider all I have learned prior to making a decision!
