Post space saver spare inflation question

I have a 71 911. I have the collapsable space saver, and I assume its pretty old.

Questions:

1) I would inflate this thing with a compressor, right?

2) Should I have a "tire leak" spray canister, too, in case this thing doesn't hold air?

3) How can I trust this tire to work without testing it? Can it be inflated, checked, and deflated?

4) The valve stem looks wierd to me - it has kind of a "step" to it, and it looks like the valve core is missing - am I right?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Franck

Frank,

Yes, you can inflate it, check it, then let the air out. After releasing the air out of it, it may not be small enough to just drop back in the trunk until it's completely cool.

Cool

Spot on reply by Bill. You can inflate it, use it, and then let it just deflate and store.

The valve is just like that: "weird". Nothing strange with your tyre.
