Default Correct tires & rims

Hi all, I have an '80 SC & it's fitted with RUF Speedline 17" with 9" front & 10" rears. It's got 235.45R17 ET44 & 275.40R17 ET56.7.

It's very heavy during low speeds & I'm thinking of changing to thinner fronts but was advised not to as it has 9" fronts. Anyway, why is it that RUF makes such thick rims as I usually see 9" on 18" & above.

Now, if I were to change to 17/18" rims what is the correct offset I should be looking at to fit? Thanks.

Your '80 doesn't have power steering. Many non-track 911s w/ super-wide front wheels are equipped w/ power steering (964 versions & newer). If it were me, I'd use 7" wide rims on the front. For a basically stock (you don't mention if your car is stock or highly modified), street-driven '80 SC I would not stray far from what the factory did in that series of 911s - 7x16 frt & 9x16 rear on the '89 911 turbo. You might email Ruf for their advice, too.

Hoew sure are you of those sizes?

It's got 235.45R17 ET44 & 275.40R17 ET56.7.
How sure are you of those o/s #s??

I have the same size tires on 8 &9.5 wheels on my Carrera, no problem.

But it's very difficult to imagine the 9 & 10" rims in that space, especially at the front.

Anyhoo... large wheel fitment at the front whether 16, 17 or 18 is ET ~23.3 + for a 7, ET 25 - 31 for an 8, never heard of a 9 fitting there at all on an SC/Carrera flared car

You need for a stock 80" SC --- 17 x 7.5 +23 and 17 x 9.0 +15 et fitment to have an updated look in a slightly larger wheel tire setup. I have the 205/50/17 and 245/45/17" tires. They fit very nicely. I have an 82' SC and I went over this earlier. I had some incorrect 18" fitment wheels from my 928 that I managed to fit on the car with spacers for one day. When my expert Porsche mechanic saw them, he insisted I remove the spacers and get the correct fitment. Go to http://hartmannwheels. com and ask Bill for a deal on the Turbo Twist setup. I love mine. Good Luck, Ron

Here's a pic of my 911, it's had a metal body conversion to 993TT look & I'm sure it has some spacers added. In fact, the rear wheels still need extra 15-20mm to fill the gap. I must add that the front tires rub when I make U-turns or sharp corners. I got those ET#s off the rims & whatever rims I get now must fit those big brembos too.

So, what's the standard off-set for our 911SC when I need to place order or perhaps my car has some mods that changed it? I have no clue as the ET#s I get off the current rims don't seem to match any 911SCs. Thanks.

Having or not having a stock SC body is a critical piece of information.

For info about stock body wheel fitments look here

Stock SC was 6" wide +36mm ET front and 7" wide +23.3mm ET rear ooptionaly 7" +23.3mm ET front and 8" +10.6mm ET rear

w/ a body kit like yours you need to do some H/W if you want to make changes.

a further complication will be your brakes which aoppear to be some sort of BBK.

Your car appears to be nicely done and set up, I would think twice about putting smaller front tires on it.
