This is a bit long...sorry. I have been running 16" Boxster wheels on my 72 911 for the past few years, basically a DE car. The suspension has been modified with stiffer torsions and sways, bushings, lowered, etc. To date, I have only run with the OE Yoko AVS S1s, 205/55 & 225/50. The rears are tight, but do not rub on the (stock) fenders or suspension.
I am looking to replace the S1s with some Advan A048s. The specs listed on Tirerack's website show the section width to be about the same on both tires, but the tread width is almost an inch wider on the A048s. I really think the A048 in 225/50 will rub on the inside of the fender. I was thinking about going with a 225/45 in back, with a 195/50 in front. This reduces the overall diameter by one inch, which would increase the clearance between the inside of the fender and the edge of the tread. I'm not worried about the speedo error.
Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on this?
Thanks.
