Where is my oil cooler?
#16
Hi rnln,
Yes, the small cooler at the engine has been stock equip for 911s. The finned oil cooler came stock on 87 models, hence the "familiar name" of "Carrera-style" oil cooler. 911s previous to '87 (down to 1974 IIRC) had only the "trombone" style. Why you have neither is a mystery that can only be answered by the previous owner. You probably have no over-heating issues because of the climate where you live and the season of year, both of which will keep temps low enough that your thermostat just may stay closed --unless you get stuck in traffic which I guarantee will bring that temp needle up. I'd go ahead and find the real Carrera-style oil cooler, new or used, as it is great insurance for keeping oil temps down in hot weather or if you ever decide to do track/auto-x events in the car. Hope this helps.

Thanks all. Just got a used good conditon from a friend. I'll see how it's bolt up to my car. Smaller than the space in our car, but... better than not thing. I might add it to the older stock piping cooler (my car currently have) instead of reaplacing it.
Thanks.
Thanks.
