Default Anyone use Red Line Synthetic

Hey guys,

I did a search for Red Line in the archives and didn't really find a good answer to my question. I really am trying to figure out what weight I should use if I decide to switch to Red Line. I have been running 15-50 Mobile 1 for the last 10k miles, so I was thinking 20-50 red line, but I guess Im not really sure. I finally decided to dump the Mobile 1 after switching my 944 over to Mobile 1 from the previous owners Castrol (Dino). I am not a personal fan of castrol, but my lifters are noticably louder with the M1 so I don't know what to think. I used M1 in the Triumph a few years back with really bad results, lower pressure, and the valves were a LOT louder. I guess its just time for me to try something different, and I have had good luck with the Red Line in the triumph.

Thanks guys,

I have been using Redline for about 5 years. Without question the best oil
money can buy ! I only run 20/50. I do live in Louisiana and do not
get very cold weather and I get some really hot summers. You might want
to adjust your weights accordingly, maybe a 10/40 ? you can email
Redline and ask them, they are very helpful ! The first car I used it in
was an 83SC by the way, and I switched from Valvoline VR 20/50
at around 150,000miles. I totaled the SC at around 250,000 miles
and she was still running great, no major problem with leaks even
at that milage. I now run Redline 20/50 in my 89.
Good Luck
Chuck

Chuck,

I was looking at their web site this morning and found the form to request information. I guess they have come out with a 15-50 that is supposed to be good for "air cooled engines". I have not heard from them yet as to what they recomend though. I'm thinking that I will probably try the 15-50 unless they say it is a really bad idea, as I just feel that 10-40 is too light. Who knows though, Ill post back when I hear back from some one at Red Line

Red Line is very good oil, but I've never had a problem, or heard of anyone else having a problem, using Mobil 1 15-50. They now carry Red Line at Advance Auto parts, but I doubt its worth the extra $4.00 qt premium over the M1.

Why not Castrol? I push my 911E to the limit on the street and on the track due to its low 140 HP and I've never had a problem with their 20W50. (And on the track in September we're doing 20 minute run groups in 105 degree high desert weather at Willow Springs.)
