what could this be
when it gets dark and i put my lights on,they are bright for about 20seconds.then they turn to a dimmer brightness.are just old maybe.the car is an 87.i also thought that maybe it was a weak battery.dont know..thanks

it could be the inability to properly charge the battery as the power for the lights is not coming from the battery when the car is running. It could also be that the battery is pulling more current in an effort to charge, resulting in not enough current to provide 'bright' lights.
Begin by measuring the voltage at the battery with all accessories off, engine not running.
Then do it at idle with nothing on, then at higher RPM with nothing on.

took car to shop.they said that i need a new alternator.thats what i thought after checking old posts on this site.my voltage was going under 11 with the lights on.oh well.thanks
