Post Ignition Switch won't turn

1980 911SC Targa.
I am having trouble turning the key in the Ignition. To get the key to turn, I have to wiggle the steering wheel and try to turn the key until it turns and the steering lock frees. If this does not work I have to alternate with the spare key which sometimes goes at the second attempt. Can be up to 10 minutes fiddling around. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Grambo.

Mine does the same thing. Try pulling the key out slightly.

Cool

Unfortunately this is the standard failure mode for the ignition switch. Mine became harder and harder to turn to the starter motor position. It would go into the ON position but not turn any farther. Since it is mostly a track car -- I installed a push-button for the starter. I still have the brand new ignition switch which I was going to have rekeyed to match my keys. Be careful, some day, it may just not cooperate.
