Default Turbo tie rods?

Easy enough question(s), but all of my reference books are packed away during our home renovation.....

What's the easiest way to tell if I have turbo tie rods on my 1982 911 SC, or the factory tie rods?

Also, the turbo valve covers are "finned" as opposed to the "smooth" factory covers, correct?

Thanks in advance.

I don't know how to identify the turbo tie rod ends, but I bought turbo valve covers recently and they are aluminium vs the stock magnesiums that tend to warp.

Hi:

Turbo tie-rods have a rubber boot on them that protects the inner monoball. Stock SC ones do not.

Turbo valve covers are finned,..........SC ones are not.

You will lead a happier life if you listen to your inner monoball...

A valve cover is just a piece of metal that keeps the splashing oil inside the head(valvetrain). The "turbo" ones have a raised cross-hatch/finned area across the outside, instead of being flat, so they don't warp as easy and dispell a little more heat to the air.

The "turbo" tie-rods are a solid rod of metal between the rack-and-pinion and the steering knuckle arm of the strut/shock.
Not sure, but the early "non-turbo" OEM tie-rods have a rubber-mounted U-joint in the middle of that soild rod that seems guarenteed to fail. It probably was intended to be replaced sooner than after 32years ( ) and made to be in a Ralley circuit which was popular for road acrs at the time. It was a good idea but the rubber was/is the weak link.
