Default Quick Q about oil breather pipe restrictor

Hi there,

Just a quick question about the oil breather pipe restrictor on my '88 Carrera.

I installed this the other days and just wanted to check I've put it in the right place (it would stall when checking the oil level as the restrictor was missing).
Going down from the oil filler cap there is one breather pipe near the top. Then a bit further down kind of behind the filler neck and at the bottom of the filler neck there is another breather pipe. I put the restrictor piece in this one. Is this correct?
Seems to have done the trick and cured the stalling anyway.

thanks,
Matt.

Matt: The restrictor should be in the breather hose that attaches to the filler neck (nearest the cap), not the hose that attaches to the reservoir.

Pete,

Thanks for the reply! Damn I thought I had the problem solved. I did try it in the top breather first but it didn't seem to cure the stalling problem when the filler cap removed

One further question then - which orientation in the pipe should the restrictor be in? Should the small hole be towards the filler neck or towards the engine?

thanks,
Matt.

Matt: The big end should be pushed into the hose, so the little hole will be closest to the filler neck.

Thanks again Pete

Thats the way I have it installed currently as its seemed the most logical
(I swapped it over from the other pipe yesterday).

Looks like I need to tinker further to resolve the stalling problem then. Perhaps its just a question of adjusting the idle mixture etc correctly to cure this ?
Other than that the engine runs perfectly. No smoke on start-up, idles smoothly....sounds right, feels right. (Its done 130k miles - no record of top end rebuild in the history, so maybe the stalling indicates its perhaps getting to the stage where one would be good?)

Anyone else reading this had simlar experiences with the stalling and cured it with the idle mixture/speed etc?

cheers,
Matt
