SC Exploding Clutch - Fact or Legend?
My '82 SC has 50k miles on it and still has the orginal clutch. Several sources say that SC's have a rubber clutch center, where most clutch plates have springs. These sources say that the rubber is prone to fail due to age and (I'm assuming) ozone deterioration.
Is this true? Should I be doing a clutch replacement this winter?
While we're on the subject, anyone have experience with one of the lightweight flywheels on the market and are a good bang for the buck? Thanks in advance.

most clutches last about 85K on average. i would wait until a problem arises. if chunks of rubber get stuck in the pressure plate, you will have difficulty releasing the clutch in spite of pushing the pedal all the way down. then the next day, it could shift fine if the rubber chunks moved. light flywheels potentially can cause bogging as you take off from a stop, requiring you to slip the clutch more to avoid the bog. once you get going, quicker revving is reported.
