Hopefully someone has run into this problem and it's an easy fix. The problem is that after my "84 carrera has been sitting in the gargare for 7 days or so, I have a hard time starting it up. When I do drive it daily, no problem, the car starts immediately upon turing the key. But when I do let it sit for a while, the engine will just turnover and over without starting. I've tried keeping the gas pedal depressed, and I've also pumped the gas pedal - no change, just the engine turning over until IT wants to start.
Any idea what's causing this problem? Is it just letting it sit too long? I have other cars that sit for a while, but do not have a problem starting.
Thanks for your responses.

Holding down the gas pedal should have no effect, as I'm guessing the problem is electrical. Check the battery and the alternator.
Sitting for a few days should not be a problem for a properly charged battery, and recharging a slightly low battery every time you put it back on the road should not be a problem for a properly functioning alternator.

Dan, that's a good point. I bought the car last November and the receipts I have show that the battery in the car now was purchased on 3/11/2001. The battery is an Exide NASCAR Select. Perhaps it's time to get a new battery? If so, any recommendations?
Thanks.
Thanks.

I went with an Optima red top. You'll have to address the mounting of it though, as it is not a direct fit.
Here's a link to a post that should cover your concerns quite nicely:
