Default 911 value given world petroleum situation

I'm just wondering what may happen to the cash value of our cars given that we seem to have reached the era when fuel availability may lessen and prices continue to rise. Anyone been speculating whether their vintage 911 may end up being worth less, the same or more as a result?

Gas here has spiked to appx US$7 a gallon here; Porsche values are the same but large sedans are not selling; diesel engined cars are selling very well as this fuel appx US$4 gallon plus it goes further....

Even though gas is now dear here, I still don't worry about the consumption in the Porsche coz driving it is fun and having fun is priceless....

Vintage Porsches will hold value but if they do drop, so will all other vintage cars so it's 'relative'.
But if your Porsche is a pension fund, better find a better investment!

Can't imagine it having any effect. Most of our older cars are driven for pleasure (i.e. low annual miles) so the annual fuel cost is insignificant.

Not concerned. The 911 is the most fuel efficient exotic made - compare with F cars, or Lambos, etc. And... agree with abovere miles/year.

Around town, I get about 20-22mpg, highway 28-30. Not at all bad IMO.

Fuel prices here in New England are approx. the same for Diesel as Super (93), so even the diesels aren't all that locally. One of the guys at work has an 05 Prius Hybrid, and he gets around 50mpg when he drives, 40-44 when his wife does. He's a car nut too, with an old Riviera and a 6 cyl. Nova SS Convertible in his stable.

Hello, noob here with first post. I just bought an 86 Carrera. I was looking for a classic sports car and one of the reasons I ended up with a 911 was that it got significantly better gas mileage that the other old exotics. I think you are going to see a lot of cheap used SUVs on the market.

Let's hope so. I guess the cellphone-talking, make-up applying & rearseat-kid-smacking soccer moms will have to find other transport in the next few years.

Yeah maybe they'll go back to driving Volvo's, I'd rather use a Volvo's crumple zone than a one ton Suburban use mine.

Gas (premium) is now about $2.80/gallon where I live. I use premium in our Touareg and our '82 SC. The Touareg consumes one tank/week, the SC one tank/2 months. Our '02 325 gets filled about every 2 - 2.5 weeks, it also uses premium. I think, because 911s, especially '78 and later, are so practical that when push comes to shove they can be used as daily drivers. If I had to sell either the SC or the BMW, the 325 would be gone. The thing that I can't figure out is a '71 Hemi-Cuda bringing $735,000 (reported by Sports Car Market Magazine, 9/05) and other assorted muscle cars ranging in price between $75K and 125K. Talk about consumption and useless, wrapped in a single package. I drove a Hemi-Cuda when it was only a few months old, I think that it used half a tank during one violent half-mile run. I loved that car, as I did cars (a 396/425 hp '67 Camaro, a 302ci '69 Camaro and a 327ci Vette) owned by three other friends, but I loved my '58 Speedster (w/ S-90 engine) more. Somebody's going to get left holding the bag, but I don't think that it'll be 911 owners. Enjoy 'em while you can!

ah, just do like me - get next to someone that works in the oil industry. Those multi-million $ bonuses and stock options somehow make the pain of $3 gas go away...

Thanks George W! That new energy bill of your's will sure make that whole "retirement at 50 in Tuscany or Provence?" decision a lot easier...

It gets considerably better mileage than my Jeep, so if there's an impact, it won't be as bad as the impact to that hog.

We now pay 1.3 Euros per litre of gasoline (this equals to about 8 US Dollars for a Gallon - would you believe it?), and prices are still rising.

But I simply refuse to let that force me to drive my P less often...

I AGREE !

You must sell your Porsche before it is TOO LATE!

It is already worthless - tomorrow you'll have to give it away...

To support and save you (as a friend of course) I'll buy your 911 TODAY for $10.00 subject to the following:

1) It must be a limited edition R, RSR or similar.
2) It must be 100% original and in running order.
3) My wife will have to approve (we share fuel expenses you see).

Please PM me ASAP - it could be TOO LATE

I think that the value of your Porsche will be the least of your concerns.

Gas is around $2.60 for premium now around here. Any bet's on when we'll hit $3.00? I'm really glad I bought an economy car
