Post Speedo calibration

I've got an '86 carrera and I've gotten acclimated to the fact that theses cars feel 10-15 miles slower than actual speed (because you are sitting lower and because they are so responsive I think).

In 4th gear however, the speedo reads 5-7 mph fast. 3rd gear appears to be right on. This according to the transmission charts in the owners manual. ( 15mph/1000rpm for 3rd,19mph for 4th).

This can't be the 16' fuchs (vs std 15") or 3rd wouldn't be right.

Could calibration fix this or is this an issue with the sending unit?

Any ideas appreciated.

It's quite possible it could be a calibration issue, but the "error" should go up exponentially with speed, meaning that if it's off 5-7mph in fourth, around 50-60mph...as speed increases it should be 7-9mph off and so forth.

Locals in the VB area have had MUCH luck with North Hollywood Speedometer - listed in Pano and Excellence.

***I myself am NOT a past customer, just relaying the positive comments I've heard...seen their "custom" work as well.***

Thanks for gettin' back.

It could very well be exponential, its hard to estimate the error.

But why is 3rd right on?

I'm w/Jeff on N. H. ..try borrowing a portable GPS.. or follow someone w/a cruse control set at 30mph and 60mph for a base line.. I set some kind of el. pot inside the speedo.. seems to be reasonably accurate and much better than before adjustment...........Ron
