Default head studs.....

911 painted and ready to ship out when mechanic discovers that i have a broken head stud. what a rotten time for this to happen.

it has been in for paint (read resto) and i just got that bill settled. why do porsches break when you have two dollars in the bank?

luckily the guy who has been working on the car for years is doing the work. they knwo the car and are friends with us.

oh well
the car is an 83 with TMU but estimated 125k miles. now the motor is being rebuilt the odometer will be reset....to 000000 why not its a new car right? new paint, new motor!

Kyle: Are you aware that an odo reset (to zero or for replacement) in CA requires a DMV sticker to be placed on the car, I believe the door post. Your chassis, transmission, differential, most of the engine (a "new" one would include a new crankcase, heads, cam towers, chain boxes, etc.), the electrics, many suspension pieces, CV joints, brake calipers, rear wheel bearings, etc. all still have 125K miles. No, it's not a new car. Also, an actual "rebuild" on an '83 with your mileage would run about $13K, which would include new Mahle Nikasils, all new valves & springs, new bearings, a Carrera tensioner update, etc. Even then it would not be a "new" motor, just a rebuilt one. I hope that you keep scrupulous records for all the work you've had done so that a couple of owners down the road that person knows exactly what he's got.
Pete.

peter,

yes i have every receipt from the resto so far. i havent added in the hardware, nuts and bolts and so forth, but yes i do have records.

you are right that the car is still a car with 125k on it. but it'll be new to me.

i was not aware of the ca law regarding odometer discrepencies.
thanks.
