Since warm weather has appeared here in UK, have noticed the orange oil light appearing when engine has warmed up (on idle only), fair enough I thought, its a bit warm, a new oil change just keep an eye on it,
but then the red parking brake light comes on along with it !
(also on idle0
Oil level is as it always is, and pressure & temp remain unchanged.
does it mean part of the alternator is giving up, or is it likely to be some short, across the warning light circuit somewhere ?

This is almost certainly the early stages of a failing oil pressure switch. If it's not already leaking oil, as well, it probably soon will. The link with the brake warning light is intentional. Although I've never seen it written, I suspect it's a 'feature' to catch the attention of driver and/or passenger in case oil pressure is lost.
dep: Mark's got it right on the money. One extra thing to know, when the switch starts to leak enough to drip, it will run down onto the hottest part of the exhaust. That's where the three pipes into one collector that's located just to the right of the center of the engine, near the engine oil cooler. That part of the exhaust can catch fire, I've had cars pull into my shop trailing flames! Look under the car with a flashlight, if that part of the exhaust is wet have the car towed to your favorite shop. Normally your year car requires at least a partial drop, so be sure that you confirm this diagnosis before taking things apart.
