Default Sun Visors Overpriced

My Sun Visors are very soft and cheap looking. I'm too cheap to pay what the Porsche sellers want for what looks like a generic sun visor to me. Has anyone ever tried a Toyota, GM, or any other manufacturer's sun visor that would work and probably only cost $10.00 ??? Thx, Ron

**warning: possible sarcasm follows**

Interesting idea. I believe a VW bug visor would work.

There was a guy advertising on Ebay some time ago that was selling reproduction (all black, w/o pivots I believe) for around $100 a pair.
Now everybody is listing the most wrinkled up piece of trash that even resembles a sunvisor that they can find in a get-rich-quick-scheme.
I suppose the Targa version is a bit more difficult to find in good shape on the used parts scene.
That still doesn't seem to justify the high cost and limited number of options.

I might use 911 Sunvisors for my VW Thing.
Cheapest I can find for the Thing is $190.00 for OK reproductions.

They are actually a lot cheaper

Check out John Paterek, concours chair for PCA, he has written an article (I think in Up Fixin der Porsche) about cutting open your existing visor along the seamline leading edge facing the windshield, removing the dust that was once the solid piece inside, and sliding in a new rigid piece of material be it another visor cut down, fiber form construction board, etc...then you super glue the seam back together-which is the trickiest part to get a nice closure. I did mine and it worked great while retaining the original visor look and cost just for the glue (I used an old Jeep visor I cut down as the insert.)
