I just registered after hearing about the wealth of information here. Picked up an '83 SC wiith 58k original one-owner miles. (some of you may have seen the ad in Autoweek over the last month or so). Amazing cosmetic condition inside and out, mechanically very sound (including previous owner already having done the '84 Carrera tensioner upgrade). I had a 2002 C4S but had to let it go as I was in over my head financially, but I am positively loving this classic 911.

First upgrade I do will be H4 headlights, and from what I've seen the trim rings will have to be painted, correct ?

Can someone also help me understand the benefits of actually joining RENNLIST as opposed to lurking here in forum-land ?

THANKS

Hi David:

Nice car,....... Those were arguably THE most durable 911 ever produced. Take good care of it, and it will take good care of you.

H-4 headlights are a great upgrade (the Bosch assemblies) and unpainted trim rings are available so you can get them matched to your car. If you use high wattage bulbs, you must install relays to prevent burning out the high-beam switch in the steering column.

Joining Rennlist offers several benefits:

1) Access to the Classified to buy or sell something

2) Helping to support this wonderful Porsche resource that will provide a LOT of information/assistance for you that you'll not find elsewhere.

Enjoy!

Benefit #1, you know you're doing your part to make sure the site stays up for the next guy who comes along, just as those who came before did theirs for us.

Congrats & welcome!

So I joined Rennlist. Is there some delay before the red "Rennlist Member" shows up in one's profile or am I missing some way to update it ?
Thanks

Congrats and Welcome.

Welcome to the air cooled side of Porsche ownership.

My 82 (87,000 miles) originally came from the NC area. Crown Porsche in Greensboro I think. It is happily in Denver CO now.

Great looking car, and low miles too! Gotta be good with that.

Good Luck

Welcome David! There IS a wealth of info here particularly with pros like Steve and Pete Z. (along with lots of other knowledgable folks) to keep us amateurs on the right path. If you don't already know about the Pelicanparts BBS, you'll want to check it out also. Many folks frequent both boards, and there's a lot of DIY guys over there willing to help with lots of good advice (particularly for the air-cooled 911s).
