Default Interior upgrade...almost finished!

After several weeks (read as 5 months + or -), I am almost finished with my interior upgrade/rear 1/4 window modification.
I finally had the time today to complete the sunroof install, but I have a couple of questions regarding adjustment etc.

Is there a means by which to accurately confirm height adjustment of the panel prior to just hitting the switch and seeing if it fouls up?
I'd really like to avoid any additional paint damage to the car, and I want to make sure everything is correct before damaging something expensive like the sunroof gears, coupler, etc.

I'll be calling a glass guy for front/rear windscreen installation very soon, so any recommendations in the West Los Angeles (LAX) area would be appreciated. I have new gaskets, but I'd really like a pro to install it to avoid leaks and foul language/resentment towards the car.

I'll post completed pics when I have time for those interested.
