Default Shifting problems 911 sc

Guys its me again!!!,

I am starting to have problems shifting gear on my SC - it has a recon 'box, new clutch and a short shift kit fitted.

In the last few days, it has had problems getting into gear - no baulking/grinding but it feels like the linkage/rod is misaligned or loose.

Yesterday, I had problems with 2nd and 4th - within 10 minutes it was fine - I thought it could be cold oil and thought no more of it.

Today, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th are fine but I am having problems with 5th!!

It feels like the Neutral plane is at fault because I had to slam the stick quite hard to get the shifter over to the 5th/reverse plane.

Any ideas on what I can check/adjust??

Pull the plate covering the coupler, on the coupler there is a allen screw that sometimes gets loose and causes inconsistancies in shifting. You can usually tell if that is the problem by putting the car in 1st gear and see if there is more than usual play.

Default Same problem here

so I'm attacking it with new bushings, Seine systems "gated" shifter (Father's Day Present!!) and fresh Swepco.

I'm getting third gear instead of first at stop signs, red lights, etc.

Very frustrating.

Thanks Drew,

I will have a look when I get home tonight.

Its certainly not synchro rings etc. as the car normally shifts very smoothly.

Wayne: The allen screw that Drew mentioned is a good thing to check, although they don't normally come loose. But you'll be in the right area, because it sounds like your coupler bushings are failing/have failed.

Thanks everybody,

Drove the car home from work tonight with no issues at all - I even drove a different way home which avoids motorways (freeways to our american friends!!!) to ensure more gear shifts - no issues at all!!! I'm sure this Porsche is testing my patience!! or is it letting me know who is the boss??!!!

Pete and Drew, Thanks for your input - I have checked the screw and it was tight so if the problem returns tomorrow, I will order some new bushings and replace at the weekend.

Once again Thanks

Wayne, one thing I notice in my car is that it shifts better when the engine is warmed up, but not hot. I dont know if the motor/transmission mounts get softer when the motor is hot and lets things move around a little more. The last time I adjusted my coupler, I had everything real hot and now it seems to shift a little better when hot.

Wayne, remove the gear lever and check the bushes on the shift rod support bracket, also the cup on the base of the lever, at the front of the sift rod near the support bracket there is another grub screw. This is also worth checking as I have found them to have come loose!
Regards Mike
