Question 2 Questions on 87' 3.2l specs and chips

Hi everyone,

I am quite lost on that one:

- What is the horsepower of a US 87' 3.2l (my dad had a European 89' with cat and it was rated at 217hp - thought it would be the same?). Wondering what changes exist between the 87' and 89' and US vs Europe with that regards.

- This leads to my 2nd question, which is: should I get a new chip for my car (I have read a lot of threads on it and looked at 911chips.com). Will I feel the difference (I do not track my car)? Also, I am thinking about a sport exhaust system, which means I would need to change my chip once I have the exhaust put on.

All these terrible questions ... please help!

Steve Wong can modify the chip based upon the upgrades that you have on you car. Exhaust manufacturers claim varied HP gains for exhaust components. A muffler change will do little headers and muffler will add some. I put a B&B header and dual exhaust on my 84 probably8 years ago. I like it except for the horrible resonating drone at 2600-2800 RPM. Would not put any system on again without hearing it in another car first. Take a look AND listen at a Fabspeed setup. I would not give up my Steve Wong chip for anyone and suggest you don't buy anyone elses. You can drill out your stock air box as posted here and pelican in the past. No need or gain with a resuble filter and intake pipe.
regards,
Steve

I thought all the Euro 3.2's had 231 hp...

Thank you for the valuable info (as usual!). Steve, have you had any reliability issue with your chip?

As for the Euro 3.2l, I think that when they added the cat (89?) the horsepower went down from 231hp to 217hp.

Thanks,
Marin

No problem with Steve Wong's chip and as I said, I will never give it up! I did have another manufacturer's chip that I had all kinds of problems with. I replaced it with Steve Wongs and the idle search and missing went away.

Steve
