Default 911 cab power top problem

I just bought a low mileage 89 cab with a power top. The problem occurs when the top is being put down. When the top gets to just past the vertical position, it just falls the rest of the way down to the car. Conversely, when I try to put it up, the top motor never engages and the top remains down. If you lift it up to the vertical position, the gears will engage and the top will close and seal. Anyone experience this problem before?

Default 911 Cabriolet power top problem - Salt Lake City

Peter,

Do you have any recommendations for a repair shop in the Salt Lake City area that has experience with 911 cab power tops? I have an '87 911.

Thanks,
-MD

MD: Unfortunately, no, but if I remember correctly the Porsche Club of America has a very active region in your area. Log on to PCA and find contact info, I'm sure their pres or tech chairman will have a good referral for you.
