Question Ignition questions

I suddenly do not have any spark on my 77 Carrera (Euro). Where does the power from the battery go first, the ignition coil, the Electronic Ignition Unit (Permatune) or the tachometer sender or something totally different. Is the alternator tied into this system that would effect the car from getting spark. I put a new alternator in this past summer and thinking maybe the wire from the starter motor to the alternator could have disconnected (not likely, but anything is possible). Are there any fuses or relays involved in this system?

Thanks in advance.

My first thought would be is that your coil is defective. The Permatune unit is prone to failure as well, it's a process of elimination. With the key on the CD unit should receive voltage from the fused relay on the driver's side in the engine compartment near the rear bumper. Remove the cover and check the fuses. Some say you can hear a high pitch from the CD unit when working properly,FYI. The CD unit delivers the needed voltage to the coil when triggered by the distributor, I'm not sure if your distributor has points. On the '78 sc the distributor has a magnetic pick up which triggers the CD which in turn triggers the coil. The most obvious place to look first is the rotor, make sure it's functioning properly and seated correctly.
Good luck !
