Cool

I agree with J-McDonald: Someone somewhere is pampering "my" silver w/black sport seats interior
993 narrow body, so that someday in the next few years he will sell it to me in cherry condition. Then I can ENJOY it as a driver. I can hardly wait. <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" /> <img src="graemlins/jumper.gif" border="0" alt="[jumper]" />

Drive it! I went through the same emotional conflict myself. I drive daily - winter and summer - even with the worst a/c I have ever seen (important in Miami). The more I am in the car the more I enjoy it. Save the garage queens for the Ferrari guys who's cars can't be daily drivers.

Park it and buy you another one and drive it. Then you'll have the best of both worlds. I just bought an '89 Targa w/ 28K miles, so I'm familiar with the contridictory feelings. I also just bought a brand-spanking, shiney-new Skill Farm Boss chain saw. Now I'm consigned to "having to" saw my own firewood myself to "justify" the purchase. The point is, you buy a Porsche because you want one, not because you need one. For myself, I'm driving my Targa until I either die, or am able to "justify" a tt, whichever occurs first. "You can't take it with you" is becoming more real with each passing day. Good luck in your journey, relax, and take it a day at a time.

Good Grief, Man, just drive the thing. Imagine you had a beautiful wife, 18 yrs old and could easily qualify for any magazine, but you didn't want to wear her out so you only had sex with her every two weeks.... Same thing, drive the car!!

I sure got alot of answers. I'd say it runs about 99% to "just drive it." So I have driven it the last two days. I think I will limit it to about 15K max over the next 3 years and then park it. It will still be low miles, only 45K total. So I enjoy this one for now and then have a great excuse to get the 993 I really want as well.

Hey Stephen, I wish I had the 18 year old wife problem as well. I'm guessing I would not store her in the garage!

When you see a Porsche that looks like it just came off the showroom floor, gorgeous inside and out, and you glance at the odometer expecting to see 38k mi, but instead it reads 238,000 mi., now that's special. Immediate love.

Drive it!, think of it this way...what if you were injured neaxt year and could no longer drive? You would have wished you had driven it more. Use it and enjoy it, that is what it was made for.

It's not going to increase in value - at least not very much. It may be worth more than a high mileage example of the same year, but it will still depreciate. Check the value of these cars about 5 years ago. It was probably over $30k, but I doubt you'd get anywhere near that now.

Well, just to shift the balance of opinions, here is my perspective. I have a 1987 Targa (Guards red) that I purchased from its original owner in 1997 when it had 13k miles. My jaw dropped during the PPI. The car was flawless and even the undercarraige was nearly new. Original tires, and battery. All documents including the 30k service stamp for a certified Porsche dealer.

Today my 911 is still a garage queen with 18k miles. It sits most of the time under a cotton flannel cover. After going through one Interstate battery in 5 years, I've learned to trickle charge it.

Yes, Porsches are meant to be driven. I need not be lectured about that. I have other cars, including a 2002 Subaru WRX, to do the chores of daily driving.

Let's not be judgemental about how others enjoy their passions. I LOVE driving the Porsche, but I also take joy in preserving its beauty. I know a 1987 Carrera will never be considered a rare or historic car, but mine will always be special to me.

This thread reminds me of someone who wrote into a reader's survey about his 993 targa. He was very proud of how *few* times he had washed the car - (only five times and two waxes in six years or something like that) and really seemed to feel that made the car extra special.

If you're talking about an incredible unique car, maybe storing it make sense - but at the end of the day (the sale) I really doubt that medium milage vs low milage makes much of a difference.
