take some crackers and a jar of skippy along to feed to the judges and onlookers -- you can then explain the reason...

that will help with "mind share"

BTW, Simple Green is not the greatest thing for aluminum...

Good idea! I just covered him up an hour ago! Why am I doing this?? Oh yeah, I wanted to! We went through half a box of Q-Tips today. My husband did a fabulous job on the engine grille and gas filler area. Perfecto. I did the Color X and Rejex. Plus all the trim, I even scrubbed the under carriage just because, won't be judged. I did more cleaning on the seat hinges, they have the tiny crevices and the rails again! Rubbed out the leather one more time and then had to vacuum one more time, make that twice! I don't want to take him out on the road now. BTW, I bought Meguiars Glass cleaner and it works great! Very happy with it, smells nice too!

can you win with only 1/2 box???

Good Luck!

If you ever drive north on I-5, drop in. I have a car you can "practice" on...

I don't know, I'm bringing the other half (and better half) with me! I'll have about 45 minutes to prep before judging!

Thanks!

Skippy won 2nd place in our category! Now I can relax, for about 9 days and then start prepping for the Shriner's Concours, which will be a bit tougher I think. I'm going to stick with the Wash & Shine class and not jump up to Street, maybe next year. As I was looking at the engine, I just don't want to get in there to the detail you need to place in Street class!

Congrats!

By the way, where a'bouts in Sacramento are you. My sister lives in Shingle Springs. No P-cars but horses, Harleys, ATVs, cats, dogs, chickens and a Honda S2000.

Simple Green has been discussed ad nausium on the Ducati boards. Simple Green eats alluminum. I've never tested it but there are stories about it discoloring some metals.

We live near Hwy 50 and Watt Ave. Great neighborhood called Sierra Oaks. So we are West of where she lives. I've heard of Shingle Springs, but I've never been there. I am a recent transplant to Sacramento. I moved here from Santa Rosa (Sonoma County) when my husband and I got married 1 1/2 years ago.

Way to go Julia!! The "Silver" medal is not a bad start to your Concour career. You should feel pretty proud of Skippy.

Good luck at the Shriner's Concour...keep us posted.

Ahhh Julia, you've started down the slippery slope of concours competition...! Once you start winning, it gets 'worse' from here! I've spent about 10 hours cleaning my car this year and put on only 30 miles so far since getting the car out of storage in April. I've got the car clean enough where I don't want to drive it either until the next show...

Pretty soon you'll be replacing minute trim items, ordering from carcareonline.com every quarter, replacing stuff just for cosmetic reason, etc, etc...

Congrats on your 2nd place! I assume this is your first concours with your new Skippy since you bought it? Great way to start out!

Good luck in 9 days!

Thanks guys. Jay, I have already placed my first order with carcareonline yesterday! The points I lost were for dust on the top of the window and in the body frame when you open the drivers door inside the fender at the bottom (did that make sense?). That was one place I didn't think of, but I will now! They had about 80 or so cars today. I love seeing them all lined up. I judged the pre 74 911/912's. There's just something about these cars, isn't there?

Larry Reynolds (carcareonline.com) is very knowledgeable person and their website has some good tech articles. He told us at a tech session a number of years ago that "Simple Green" is a strong alkali and not one that should be used on car finishes, especially Porsches. Those that use dish detergent are also removing car wax with each wash. Personally, I use the P21S, (the citrus based degreaseris a great engine bay cleaner) and Meguir products.

Steve
