Default Front Spoiler & Maintenance near Manhattan

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to here and to porsche ownership. Just bought an 87' 3.2l with front spoiler. It is so low (I had previously driven a 89 3.2l without front spoiler) that I slightly damaged it (lost a small piece at the bottom). I was wondering if I needed to replace the whole spoiler or if this could be repaired.

Also, I live in Manhattan and am looking for a good place to perform maintenance/repairs as needed (I am afraid the one manhattan porsche dealer is going to be quite expensive!).

Thank you very much for your help,

- Yes, you can just put some fiberglass to cover and refinish

Is this the factory rubber chin spoiler?

Yes, it is the original factory chin spoiler (black plastic on the outside / inside is light blue material). I have lost a small piece and still have half of the part that fell. I saw some new chin spoilers for $250 but don't want to replace it that early (may do it this winter), especially if it can be repaired.

Thanks for your advice.

Oh I thought you meant a FG spoiler. Since it is the rubber chin you might be able to use liquid rubber or some such ... the advice I gave above will only work for FG.

A body shop might have ideas for you...

I have an '86 911 and live in Mahattan as well. I take my car to Rennwerke in elmsford NY. It s an all Porsche shop, lots of NYC customers who take the train (frequent Metro-North ; 30-45 minutes and a cab (10-15) to pick up their cars (dropoff is easier, they will often give you a ride to the train station, last time i got a ride into town w/ another customer). Anyway, its worth the trip, IMHO. "Cheech" Fernandez is very knowledgeable (there are usually about 20 911's ion the lot, 2 or 3 track cars on the lifts, and always a brace of absolutley gorgeous 356's parked near the gate). The right thing is done rightt he first time, and he stands behind his work. A bit of a trip, but worth it IMO. Take a drive up one afternoon (saw mill parkway to exit 21) and introduce yourself - see what you think. (#914-592=4006)

just a (very) satisfied customer

The factory chin spoiler is black rubber. You may want to try one of the two pack epoxy/resin repair kits for polyurethane bumper covers that are available at most auto body supply stores. (3M and Permatex, make them, likely others as well).

If that works, you'd still need to paint to match, and the texture would likely be off, if that matters to you, but certainly worth a try if you don't want to replace it at this point.

Good luck,
Tim

I second that.
