Default Engine paint question?

My friend has a 1977 911S and is getting his engine rebuilt. His fan and top shroud are painted green. Does this mean anything significant? He'd like to paint it to match the body (white) or some other color, but not if it's green for a reason.

Any help?

It's only green because Porsche decided to make it green. If you don't care about originality make it any color that you wish, just choose paint wisely - you will need something to cope with the engine compartment environment.

Thanks Pete. I don't think my buddy is too worried about the car being absolutely authentic, as long as the green paint doesn't signify something that would make it a collector's item.

Shroud cover does signify engine type in several models. I wouln't paint the shroud but would paint the fan.

I just super cleaned the case and painted w/ Por-15 black. It's not the best way to do it thou. i better job would use a prep solution and speciality alum primer.

IIRC, a green engine shroud (on pre-SC models anyway) indicates an "S" motor.

Pete,

Didn't think Porsche painted the fan or fan housing? News to me - shroud yes (but I thought this was a coloured plastic (GRP?) rather than 'painted'? Mine is green and scuffed and appears to be coloured all through.
