Anybody have any experience with Gary Stratten's custom 17 inch Fucs/BBS's? He's in Orlando and has apparently been doing this since the late 70s.

No familiar with Stratten's work, but I've seen Lindsey Racing's 17" Fuchs rims and they are nothing short of stunning works of art. And from what I've heard from those who track them, they withstand track use w/o issue.

I think Lindsey's product is probably fine, but my understanding is that they use pretty inexpensive wheel halves to make the 16s and 17s. They must be pretty inexpensive because the conversion is relatively cheap. I may be totally wrong, but for a car that will see some track time, I'd much rather have BBS wheels than "no name." Also, for the one-piece wheels they apparently weld forged Fuchs centers to cast halves....
I'm probably being WAY over conservative and I'm sure they make a good product, but I'd rather be too conservative for a wheel that will see some track time.

Mike makes really top noch wheels.
I have them on my 72 RSR 3.6L outlaw. Mine are 17s x 9.5s and 11s.
I highly recommend them.

HRE makes a Fuchs look-alike in a 3 piece wheel, which people have to do a double take on. You can see it on their website at www.hrewheels.com

And as far as Gary is concerned - call him - he doesn't do internet really well - his wheels have held up well - he's done quite a few race cars in Florida - Sebring/Daytona/Homestead/Road Atlanta. There was a guy a few DE's ago that had a set of his wheels - looked very well put together...

Could I get the 7 inchers from the front converted to 17X11s for the rear and use the 16X9s on the front? Might look a little funny, but it makes me sick to cut these beautiful Fuchs.

I have exaclty the same wheels.... 9.5x17 and 11x17. They are incredible. And Mike Lindsey worked with me so that we would have the perfect off-set for the spacers I wanted to run (just enough to clear the calipers)...
I think (I might be very wrong) Mike uses Corvette wheels to make the 2 pieces Fuchs)...
Anyway I would buy them again... (and probably will... a set for the street and a set with sticky tires)

Gary builds a high quality racing wheel for a fair price. The attached pictures are from last years LeMans Classic where we placed 3rd at the race. We placed 3rd due to the way the car was handicapped. The scoring was done as to give all 360 plus cars a chance at the overall win. The wheels that are shown on the 911 have run at Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen, and all parts in between. He's never had any problems with tire pressures and has never had a rim that he's built fail.

The Lindsey wheels are strong and very well-made. I've been tracking mine for about four years, now, and -- after (multiple) 120-130-mph offs -- there's still no damage.
As a bonus, they're even lighter than a same-width stock Fuchs.
Mine are 9.5x11x17's.

What an incredible looking car. Care to send me high res. copies of the two full body pics so I can use them as background?
