I can probably help you find one of the better shops in Houston or the surronding area. What do you need done? I used Walt at Competition Engineering out west when my engine was rebuilt. He does nice work. email me if you like at JZittrer (at) houston.rr.com

try the eurocar werks on gulton or the swiss garage on w. alabama, ask for wally at the swiss shop. they were recommended to me by a longtime PCA member although i can't remember the exact name of the shop. here is the number 713 626-9320. are ya'll here in houston. i live in the bear creek area and have a red 88 coupe. good luck in your search,
Scott

for an older car that you want to build up like an early S. The ONLY choiice in the Houston area would be Mike Callas at Rennsport in Sealy. I can get you his number if you like or you can call info but you'll have to ask for his number by his last name. Most of their business is done on a referral basis.

Two things initially, I want someone to look at my internal engine components to check for wear, problems that my untrained eye wouldnt pick up on. PO states that engine parts were all machined, crank/cams polished, rods polished / balanced, heads put back together with all "necessary" new parts, etc... but he doesnt have receipts.. So I want an expert to rip it all apart and make sure.
Also, I have an MFI rebuilt to S Specs, so I want to upgrade Cams/P/C to S Spec. So someone who can make some good recommendations and knows what they are talking about.
Finally in the long term.. someone to adjust the valves, tweak the MFI, change the oil, etc... stuff you can do yourself.. but might rather pay someone to do...
I realize this may be two different shops...
Thanks for the feedback!

Mike Callas all the way. He is the only one in Houston to work on MFI or any of the early Hot Rod type cars. Mike is the guy that is trying to talk me out of the 3.6 conversion and put in the 2.8MFI motor that I own instead. He is a real old-school type. IF not him then I would say you need to go to Euless TX up around Dallas and have Mayo Performance work on it.

There is another guy that you might talk to. He is a dealer/factory trained mechanic. He would probably be OK to tear down and inspect if that is all you wanted done. He would also be less money than any other shop in town due to his low overhead. I won't post his info publicly so email if you would like to go this route.

I'd like to hear more about your car too.

Cheers,
JZ

for your needs, definately use Callas.

Id stay away from Eurocar Werk.

Use Koby Motors, "Koby's". The owner Paul is an outstanding fellow.

Swiss Gargage is very worthy as well.

Paul Koby is still very involved with KOby's .

He rebuilt my tranny about 5 months ago.

Great guy.

For those needs though, Callas is the way to go. Im pretty sure I know the tech youre refering to....Ive used him before as well. Solid guy.

Yup, call Mike Callas. Mike is the most experienced, meticulous mechanic I've known. All around nice guy too.

Bump for an ancient thread.

Any recommendations for a general machinist...not necessarily Porsche specific. Need wastegate fins cut down and some small pieces welded.

Thanks.

European Auto Techniks
(281) 873-5111
1200 Spears Rd, Houston, TX 77067

I also use EuroCar Werk on Gulfton with good luck.

Eurocar-Werk
(713) 661-6428
5103 Gulfton Dr, Houston, TX 77081

No longer have the 72 T. Now have a 83 SC... I trust either one with my car. Eurocar Werk is close to work, European Auto is close to home... Id check them both out...

Edit... These are both Porsche repair shops not machine shops... However.. they do engine rebuilds... so they must have someone good they use.
