Default Tightening up the targa...

I would be curious to hear what people have done to tighten up the targa - both top and chassis - to quiet the creaks. I have replaced the clips on my top with the new ones from Performance, and the top is in good condition with no loose hardware. I'd like to avoid the bolt-on braces. Thanks!

I did three things:
1) Dan Petchel at Cars Inc. rebuilt my Targa top.
2) I installed a 3-point camber strut in the trunk.
3) I installed a Brey-Krause harness guide-bar behind the front seats. It has four connection points to help stiffen the mid-body.

It's going to be hard to stiffen the chassis without additional welding or installing braces. Of course, you could buy a coupe.

I bought my car from Dan Petchel, and he redid my top prior to purchase!

I deal with the creaks in my Targa top using my 600w amp and Polks Audio speakers. I don't hear a thing

Make sure all the body seals are in good shape.... but some amount of creaking is part of the deal.

IMHO, from the cowl forward and targa bar back the car is very solid... it is the pan at the door openings where the Targa structure is more flexible... bracing the car won't do much unless you can tie the front and rear sections together.... this means a roll cage which is not what you want.... the doors provide some fore-aft rigidity, but torsional flexing is more the issue....the targa top does not really offer much structural strength and was not engineered to.

Drive with the top off and enjoy the great outdoors

I added a rollcage and removed all interior insulation. If it does creak/squeak, I can't hear it over the sound of the engine I couldn't hear the radio either, so I took it out

Can anybody with rollbars, etc in the back post pics? I'm curious about this too (as I may be getting a Targa before too long) and I'd like to find out how involved they are and how much space they take up? (I doubt I'll ever use the back seats for anthing but luggage...and may even remove the rear seats and place a shelf there.)

Thanks! (..sorry to partially hi-jack the thread!)

The Brey-Krause Harness Guide Bar setup renders the rear seats useless for people. The horizonantal guide bar is right about where a persons face would be...not very safe. There is still plenty of storage space back there, except when I hook up the shoulder harnesses.

Just being a nanny, but I would avoid Rollbar/Cage/Harness brace for the street. witout a helmet and other safety equipment, it can be a dangerous thing to hit in a collision.

My solution for annying little creaks in your Targa? Go drive a 71 Corvette roadster for a while... the Targa will feel like a bank vault after that!!!!
