Post Thrust bearing keeps going???????

What the heck would cause two thrust bearings in a 915 to go bad in less than 1,000 miles each?

I assume you are talking of the bearing on the pinion gear? I don't have my 915 manual with me, but am fairly versed in the innards of that particular work of art.

If that is indeed the bearing you speak of, I have three suggestions of what may be wrong:

1) the bearing race is out of round, consequently, the case may be as well...just look at the wear pattern on the race, it can tell you a lot.

2) there is trash still left in your transmission, likely from sheared dog teeth or even sheared/broken gear teeth...maybe an actuator (star-thingey) tip broken off??

3) stretched studs that hold the pinion/input shaft bearings in place, the flexing under load plays hell on these bearings.

If I have the wrong bearing in mind, please correct me...I will do what I can to advise further.
