Default Looking into buying a 74 911 anything I should look out for

I have an 86 944 now and am looking into buying a 74 911 from a local shop I know. The car has 75k miles now and has no visible signs of rust. It also runs well. I will try and get some pictures to put up for you guys. My question is are there any spacific problems with that year? I think it is a 2.7 liter car. Also is there anything I might want to look out for? Thanks guys

Smooth shifts and pulled cylinder head studs (valve covers must be removed and head studs torqued to 23.5 lbs.). Service records are a must, you have no other way to know if the car has 75K miles, 175K miles, or 275K miles! Also, a second shop to do a PPI! That's a start, please read my thread regarding PPIs...

If you're in the market for a 911, before you buy that 2.7, drive a 911SC as well. You may want to spend the extra $$$ to get the 3.0.

Dont let people tell you that the 2.7's are bad engines, many people have bought into the anti 2.7 rhetoric. Yes they are heavier then the pre '74 cars, no they are not as powerful as the post '77 cars, but they make fantastic, fun drivers when properly taken care of. While they may be the least popular 911, they are still a 911, and as such are awsome cars, and once their inherent problems are adressed they are quite capable and reliable. Make sure the head studs were replaced and that it has the Carrera chain tensioners. 930 (Turbo) valve covers are a plus, and if you track it or drive in hot weather much you will want an 11 blade fan instead of the 5 blade that is stock. Depending on what the smog restrictions are (I cant imagine them being more strict then in CA) then youll probably want to ditch any smog equipment/pump/thermal reactor setup that may still be on the car, they just make it run hot. I have everything pulled off/dissconnected on mine and it passed smog II in CA with flying colors.

My experience with a 74 911 was a good one. I went through it and made several minor repairs/upgrades.
I'll reitterate the significance of proper head stud torque, Carrera tensioners, and removal (if possible) of the thermal reactors in favor of a lighter, better exhaust setup.
I would also second the 11 blade fan issue.
The only other thing that I felt was an important upgrade was to replace the points with a pertronix unit.
