Default value of an engine

I found a 89 911 cabrio thats pretty well destroyed but I might be to buy it rather reasonable. Whats the motor and trans worth? it's a 3.2 manual trans, waiting on word of the mileage. I'm a watercooled guy so I don't know much on these any input would be appreciated.

Do a little shopping on eBay or other to get some comparitive prices. I think fixnprsh is pretty close, depending on mileage. You may be able to get a bit more for it, especially if you know a little history on the motor or can provide any kind of "PPI" to a potential buyer. I would think the trans would get you around $500?

There are other parts to that car that could be worth salvaging/selling. At the very least, parting out a 911 is a fun experience and a great way to "learn" the air cooled cars. You never know, you might be able to get the significant other involved!

badcoupe...If you decide not to get it please let me know the info on where the car is. I'm wanting to do a 3.2l 914 six conversion and a donor car wrecked (I'm also in Indiana) from the midwest here would be great for me.

Let me know if you don't take it!

the car is at a insurance auction we buy wrecked cars from frequently to build and some to part. I was trying to get an idea of what parts are worth so I know how much to bid on it. the car is pretty hurt all around. I can buy the car for you PM for some details. I'll treat you right on it since your a lister.

FYI -That's a Silver Anniversary Edition car. (The piping on the seats and the color combo is a dead give away). -MEANING it has the G50 among other goodies..

If anyone buy's it to part out, I'm in need of the trunk carpeting as long as it's in good condition. PLease keep me posted....

Newer, smoother transmission. The 911 had a "915" transmission from 1972 until 1987 when it was replaced with the G50. Hydraulic action, I believe. Anyway, when buying a 3.2 911, a lot of people recommend getting a "G50 car" over a "915 car".

Just a quick observation… notice that the tach and speedo have been rotated in their dash spots. Often, but not always it’s an indication of some extra high performance driving, aka track time. Might want to learn as much of the history as you can.

Wonder if that "track time" is what caused the accident?
