Talking VIN question

Hi All !!
This is my first post , I've been reading this board for several months. I've just got to say that after 30years Porsche ownership and 6 911s' this is defiantly the best place to keep up on the hot topics and greatest fourm on the internet!!!

Now for my question, the last few months I've been looking for a '98 C4S. The other day I found one on eBay.....just so happens the car is very close to me. One item in the add was very interesting, it stated that the car was the last 993 C4S imported into the US. Well I emailed the guy and we were discussing various aspects of the car and I ask him what documentation he had to substantiate that claim. He said when he bought the car the sales people at the dealership told him, anyway I'm thinking Hmmmmmm.

I belive there were about 264/268 '98 C4S sold in the US. Here's the VIN WPOAA2997WS320315 can anyone substantiate or debunk this?

Thanks to All,

aren't the last 4 digits consecutive chassis numbers? That is car number 315? Somebody will know how to find out how many were produced.

Hi Steve and welcome to the board, I'm fairly new here too.
A book I have (Porsche 911 forever young)shows a breakdown on VIN'S thru 1994. And as Mike stated the last 4 numbers are the vehicles sequence. So the way I read it your car would be number 315 produced.
Let us know what you find out, if it was the last?
Cheers

I'm looking at Peter P's 911 Redbook. W program- (993) produced from Aug 97' to July 98'. There is nothing with a VIN like that? The WPOAA series all have 299CWS320001 thru 1353. Shows 1,292 for US and Canada. Someone else check, I can't find it?

The VIN you supplied, "WPOAA2997W5320315", is invalid. Please check the number for accuracy and try again below.

- The letters "I", "O", and "Q" never appear in a VIN.
- The VIN must be exactly 17 characters in length.
- The CARFAX database contains information for cars manufactured from 1981 through the present
