What fun could be done with 2.4T?
Hi!
I have restored and upgraded my 9112.4T Targa(a wreck at first) to 964 widebody without rear wing. Basalt black with Cup1, all used original parts.
Budget wise I am considering a restored 3.0SC engine.
But before buying such an engine I wonder what fun could be done with the 2.4T dogengine (Zenith carbs). Is this a reasonable engine to have as a starting point for something fun. Let's assume I am prepared to spend $2-2500.
What would you do? Sell it for$1500 (in Sweden) and buy a better SC engine or upgrade the one I have??
Everything else has been done
Baremetal body restoration
965 used bumbers, sills original not GF
New Targa rubber parts
New Carrera 84 brakes
New brakelines + blasted, zinced and cromated plus powercoated suspension
Bushings
Turbo tierods + bumpsteer washers
New bearings + bushings
New carpets + seats + 930S steeringwheel
New windows
Tires and rims
Lights
Thankful for engine input
/Henrik

Don't know about Europe, but in US a decent used 3.0 goes for about $3,500-$4,500.... but you have to look carefully because alot of them are junk. If you go this route, I'd consider putting Webbers or PMOs on it, but this is easily $2-3K extra.
I don;t think you can do much of anything useful to a 911 engine for $2,000. A decent rebuld is $6K plus, and a hot rod engine could easily to $10K if you do it right.
