G50 vs. WEVO upgrade for 86 Factory Turbo Look 911
Although my 915 transmission seems to be working fine, am thinking of upgrading to the WEVO Shifter and coupler.
This raises a few questions that I would appreciate any input on:
1) What is the rough cost differntial of the two options?
2) I may one day replace the 3.2 motor with a 3.6 and am wondering if the 915 can handle the extra power?
2a) Can the G50 mate with the Wevo setup, and if so is there any benifit?
Any guidence from those that have had first (or second) hand expierence is very much appreciated.

Check the WEVO website for prices, but I think the shift/coupler is abnout $600 with probably about 2 hours labor and the internal shiftgate about $1000 with probably 4-6 hours labor.
Personally, although the WEVO improves shift feel, if you shift properly, IMHO the factory shifter will work just as well in terms of speed and accuracy. In terms of lap time, I don't think it gives any bang for the buck. This is a matter of great debate... everybody has a different view so treat is as a matter of personal taste.
I think the 915 if capable of handling a stock 3.6. It is a pretty robust trans. Swapping a G50 is a major job and expenive. Check the archives, I think Steve Weiner of Rennsport describes it in detail, and he knows his stuff.
Also, the shifter on the G50 has a more traditional "gate" so the beneit fo the WEVO is probably less.

2) Yes in most cases. Certainly for a street car. WEVO can improve your 915, talk to Hayden and he can make a suggestion based on your application.
3)Ask Hayden. Imho the cost of the G50 conversion and the added cost of G50 gears is not worth the swap for a stock 350hp 3.6. Wevo can provide other tricks to make you 915 stronger.

Do a search on "Jack Olsen". He's running a 3.6 with a 915 transmission and recently added the full WEVO upgrade kit. Of course, it can be tough to get Jack to open up about his car...

Did someone say my name?
I have the Wevo internal gateshift, coupler and shifter. I think they're the best I've seen for each application.
Swapping in a G50 is not a worthwhile upgrade, in my opinion. The difference in cost between a G50 and adding Wevo parts is very substantial. Among other things, the G50 requires mods to the donor G50 transaxle, a new shifter, a new pedal cluster, and significant mods to the torsion tubes, including new torsion bars, cutting out the old torsion tubes and welding the new tubes in utilizing a jig. You also need to move the motor back about an inch, which makes the 911's Achilles' heel of weight distrbution even worse. The G50 is also heavier than the 915. It's also geared too tall for most earlier cars.
(It can easily end up on par with the cost of an engine swap. It's worthwhile for no-holds-barred race cars, with massive power upgrades, but that's it, IMO.)
That said, before I go and buy up the Wevo catalog, I'd make sure your current transaxle is in spec. Check all the bushings and the adjustment of the shifter. No amount of external upgrades will fix a transaxle that's due for a rebuild.
A Carrera 915 can handle 250+ hp all day long.
