Post Flywheel on 77 911 3.0 ROW

Hi, I usually log in as david0514 @ work. I am now set up at home. My question is (correct me if my terminology is wrong) regarding the flywheel on my car. I think it is called the flywheel. When you remove the transmission from the car, there is a big wheel with teeth on the motor. Anyway, someone told me to find out if this part was stock or not. All I could find for references on it are Fichtel & Sachs AE, TYPGMFZ225 and 3032015399. Does any of this mean anything to anybody? Is this flywheel stock or not? My friend said it didn't look stock and suggested asking.
Thanks for your help

Hi:

I must make some assumptions here about what you are seeing, but the part with the teeth on the circumference is indeed, the flywheel. Porsche used the same one for all but the RSR cars during this time and its most likely your flywheel is stock.

Most of the flyhweel is masked by the pressure plate (assuming that you did not unbolt it from the flywheel) and the clutch disc is positioned between the flywheel and the pressure plate.

The Fichtel and Sachs item is the pressure plate. They do not make the flywheel, just the clutch parts. I did not find that number in my Sachs book,.....does the pressure plate have a steel or aluminum outer ring?

I am sorry. It is the pressure plate. It is aluminum? Any insight appreciated.
Thanks.

The flywheel is one piece thats bolts to the engine block. The ring gear bolts to the flywheel then the clutch and pressure plate.

There are only 2 F&S aluminum PP's that would have been most likely used on a car like yours, the OEM version and the RSR one. The differences are clamping pressure and the RSR ones are expensive, take a mighty leg, and are rarely used.

I'd venture that you have the aluminum version of the OEM item.

Thanks Steve and George. What is the benefit? Is it something someone would purposely do or more something that since you were fixing something else in the area you might add?

Thanks.
