Default Red Line Service

I have another thread discussing my need for a new mechanic and asking for recommendations. I was just curious though about Red Line Service in Santa Monica because they are so conveniently located. Anyone had any good or bad experiences in dealing with them? Are they a good place to take my car? Let me know.

Thanks,
Alex

I would highly recommend them. If you do look at the 993 board, you will find one dissenter recently who vastly misrepresented his experience at Red Line and never chose to respond to the response posted by the owner Marc. These forums and the internet in general do provide a significant amount of useful information but they are also prone to the proliferation of misinformation. At the very least I would encourage you to stop by and talk to Marc about your car. You'll be able to get a pretty good feel for him and you can base your decision on that.

Alex,

Have you tried Otto's in Venice? I've never been there, but have heard good things about them and they're close to you. If you're looking in the valley, I did not have a good experience with NARW...I'll never go there. If N.Hollywood isn't too far for you, TRE is superb! Dave and his guys are awesome!

I've had a 911 on the Westside for about 9 years now. Forget Ottos, you would think with all trophies on the walls they would know something - they don't. Classic story of having something that ran fine, had problems (not Ottos fault) but ended up spending thousands with him and the car has never, ever run right since. He sent me to Red Line to fix his screw ups!

Red Line is quite good. Marc is very knowledgable. If you can get in (there always seems to be a waiting list for his service) I would recommend it.

I have a 74 911 and a 2001 996, he works on both.

when pete had his mid-life crisis and blew up,

his head mechanic, and to me the finest air cooled [and water] guy in LA County, Mike Schatz moved to Ruznak, TO where his waiting list indicates his rep. He will also work at home... try the schatz motorsports website

the great machinist, walt, moved to CE [competition engineering]
