Default Exhaust flange question...

I have an opportunity to pick up some heat exchangers to backdate the exhaust on my 1978 911SC. However, there is a problem; my car is at the shop, which is closed for a brief holiday.

So, my question is this - 1978 911SC - thin flange or thick flange for heat exchangers?

Happy Holidays,
Gary S.

thin for SC I believe, you can shim the thin ones easy but you can't , or don't want to make the studs longer

It's not that hard to replace studs for whatever you one you buy.

My 82 has thick flanges, but that may be misleading since the exhaust changed in 80. Just call a local Porsche independent who's savvy. Or try Pelican's site, and do a search...you'll find what you need. But as Randy mentioned, studs are easy to replace, either way.

Guys, thanks for your replies. A very reliable source (John Walker - John Walker's Workshop - Seattle) confirms that the '78 and '79 SC are thin flange.

Hmmm, saying John Walker's Workshop is a "reliable source" is quite the understatement given his fine reputation. Kind of like saying Steve Weiner know a bit about 911s.

Glad it worked out for you.
