Anybody know a good transmission person in the Connecticut area for a 74 911 ? Went to take it on a run yeaterday. Couldn't get out of the driveway. Its stuck in reverse. I've owned the car for three years. Never had any problems till now.

I was given a holiday present by the CEO of the company I work for - a book by Stephan Wilkinson, "The Gold Plated Porsche...". Inside, he mentions Gary Fairbanks, in Norwalk CT.

Tmack: You might get lucky. I've fixed about a dozen cars over the years with the same problem. The car has to be on a lift, the trans oil must be drained and the shift fork plate removed from the bottom of the trans. Using an assortment of prybars and flat-bladed screwdrivers you can get the trans out of reverse. The exact cause of the problem is unknown, although I've found a couple of mis-adjusted (fore/aft travel) shift levers on those cars. Also, there is no guarantee that it won't happen again, because the possibility exists that someone has had your trans apart and did not adjust the shift forks correctly. Good luck with it...
