How about " Therefore, the '78 SC had no [quick acting] rev limiter"
I don't know....when my 81SC hit readline, the lack of fuel quickly became real evident Your well taken point is that a fuel cutoff won't stop the effects of a 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th shift.

I didn't even realize the thing had a rev limiter period! It's certainly not as evident as it is on the 3.2s. Anyway, I'm not sure why the engine blew on this SC...we had assumed it was over-reved, but maybe that wasn't it. Whatever happended, it was a big, expensive mess!

Pre SC has a centrifugal switch in the rotor that opens at a certain RPM (depending on what rotor you have installed). I think the range is 6,200 to 8,000 RPM, generally in 500 RMP increments. Unless it's been replaced with a non-limiting rotor.

My 1970 914-6 had a rev limiter. There was no mistaking it's action, as you were thrown against the seat belts as it you'd hit a telephone pole.
