Default 911 loses power

need fuel help?

driving home from my 1st RMR PCA meeting last week (which I enjoyed
and look forward to the next event),

my stock '87 911 experienced power loss at 70mph.
ie: right peddle does nothing, and car is slowing quickly with 3/4 tank 91 octane.
clutch in, no revs available, clutch back out, no start

after turning the key off and back on with the clutch in and coasting,
I used the starter to get the engine going again (slowed to about
50mph) and took off.

I have experienced this twice more and I parked the car. pulling out
jack stands soon.

I've been told fuel pump? or relay?
DME? computer or relay?
head temp sensor?

any ideas/suggestions/tests? need to get driving soon.

Hi:

Swap that DME relay for a new one should the FIRST thing you do.

I'd also install a new fuel filter.

You did not say how many miles are on your car but fuel pumps & head temp sensors do not last forever and that's one of the next things to check.

Default 911 loses power DME?

Steve,

Thanks for the input. I'll try the DME relay 1st.
The fuel filter is new, (put one a month ago before my MS to CO move.)

the car has 104,080 miles.

The car trys to start too rich when real cold so I have to put the
throttle to the floor to start it. would that be connected to the
head temp sensor or an oxygen sensor of some sort?

thanks for the help,

Paul

With that mileage I would do a DME relay & a cyl. head temp sensor, just because... One or the other will most likely fix the car because an unpredictable 70mph hiccup is a pretty classic symptom... Good luck!
