The car you likely saw was a Carrera with M491 option and a tail delete. The M491 is essentially the turbo car without the turbo and plumbing. The M491 option retains the wide body, turbo suspension and brakes plus some other things I can't recall.
IMHO, the M491 w/o tail is one of most attractive 911s ever built.

mine is a wide body with a duck tail too.
The wide body sans spoiler was available on the M491 cars as a spoiler delete option. It WAS standard on the speedster.
