Clutch replacement cost
Looking at 85-89's and figuring probably at 100,000 miles, aside from the normal maintenance costs, what does it cost these days to have a clutch replaced?
Every time I try to figue costs I think I am figuring costs from my last car (79 SC) at the prices when I sold it 10 years ago...stuff has gone WAY up.
Labor at the time was $35/hr !! WOW

parts are about right, go with the SACHS power kit with the aluminum press. plate and higher friction disc, then have your flywheel lightened. labor might be a little more, if "as long as its out" stuff applies to you, such as axle boots or a clutch cable, shift coupler.......

For most clutch jobs, I believe the wrench will prefer to drop the motor/tranny - figure at least $800.00. Parts are around $750 - $800 depending. Total somewhere between $1,500 and $1,600 or so...However, while you're in there....

I did the clutch in my 87 about 5k miles ago. It cost about $3k. I went with a CenterForce clutch, new flywheel, updated shifting fork and throwout bearing. Changed some sensors in back while we there.
Light weight flywheels for the G50 cars are available from Porsche for about $2000.00. A better option is a light weight pressure plate with CenterForce clutch kit from Patrick Motorsprorts (no affiliation, yada yada). Change the trans fluid while your there. Car will shift sooooo smooth.
Stock stuff will be about $800 or so less.

I put a clutch in my SC this summer. Clutch kit was ~$350, machine shop charged $50 to resurface the flywhweel and then another ~$300 in misc seals and hoses. Not a bad job at all, just takes a little research and a solid satuday or a lazy weekend.
