I would like to remove the fan and housing to clean it up a bit and mabe repaint fan and housing. Is this a big job that I can do or should I have a wrench do it for me.? Should I mabe replace metal fan with a plastic one.?
Any info you can give me would be a great help. Thanx in advance Dan B...

it's been a while since I did this, but I remember it was pretty easy. There is a special tool to hold the pully, but, as I recall, I kept the fan from turning with a wooden stick (handle of a hammer) and the nut came right off. Make sure you keep track of the number of washers and their location, because this is how the pully size is adjusted. I cleaned the fan & housing and painted them to match my car, and they still looked good 4-5 years later when I sold the car. If you are looking something to do that really takes time, you can polish the fan and it will look almost like chrome. However, if you don't clearcoat it, it won't last (ask me how I know).

Just curious, if you have the fan polished and clear anodized (or if you go with paint), will the anodizing (paint) hold up to the centrifugal forces and will the constant passing of air over it, break it down quickly, or does it last? What do the Concours guys do to theirs?

The tool is in your toolkit, if you still have it.

I powder coated my fan and housing. H0ousing still looks great 10 years later, but the fan is chipped badly on the leading edges of the blades. but, 10 years is not bad. I'd plan to re-do it every 5-7 years.
